Updates on women's and girls' sessions, coaching for parents, Easter Camps and parents’ info Note 2023

Lots happening in the junior section in the run up to the outdoor season. Here is a taster:

Indoor competitions

Sunday 19 March sees the culmination of a wonderful winter of competitive indoor cricket played at the new Gunnersbury Sports Hub. The Midd entered Girls’ teams at Under 11 and 13 and Boys’ teams at U10, 11, 13A, 13B and 15. All did well, playing some close fought matches and most reaching the Semis with the U10s and 11s making it all the way to the Finals. These will be played at the Lords’ Indoor School Lords this coming Sunday (19 March). The U10s are in action Ealing at 8.15am with the U11s playing at 9.25am also against Ealing. Go well boys and enjoy your morning – it's not every day you get to play in a County Final at the home of Cricket!

These competitions have given many players their first taste of indoor cricket with its rules designed to create non-stop excitement. It has been a great learning experience. Here is what Mehul Bakrania, manager of our Girls U11 indoor side (pictured in the heading to this article) had to say – “Our U11 girls team played in the MJCA indoor semi-finals last weekend and despite losing to two very strong sides, they showed incredible progress for a young side that only came together before Christmas, some of whom were playing only their second and third games in this format.

We saw real improvements between the second and third games and all 8 girls did a sterling job with the bat, ball and in the field where we took 8 catches over the course of the two matches. Well done to all of them.”

Huge thanks to the managers of our teams and also to North Midd member, Pete Hollman who organised and ran all the competitions so brilliantly.

Women’s and Girls’ Indoor Session – 19 March 2023

This Summer our women and girls will train outdoors together on Sunday mornings between 10:40 and 12. As a prelude to that we are running an indoor women and girls only session on this coming Sunday 19 March at Hornsey School for Girls between 15:30 and 17:15. All ages are welcome and the sessions will be led by James Parslow and/or Paul Frost. Please contact Graham Clark (leader of the Women’s and Girls’ Section) grahamclark85@googlemail.com or Pars jamesparslow217@gmail.com for more information.

Coaching the Parents indoor session – 26 March 2023 at 15:15 at Hornsey School for Girls

James and Paul will be running a free indoor course aimed at providing parents and carers with some tips to help their young cricketers practice e.g. in the Club nets, on the outfield, the Park or the garden. Whilst we are proud of the coaching we offer our Juniors, we only have them for a relatively short period each week and practice does makes perfect! The course will also cover ways parents can help our coaches to run club sessions and our managers to run matches e.g. by scoring, umpiring. To book please use this form. There is space on the Form for you to add particular topics you would like to be covered. Our plan is to run a follow-up up outdoor course around the start of the outdoor Session.

Easter Cricket Camps and possible Workshops

You can access more info on these and the booking form by going clicking the “Easter Camp Info 2023” header at the top of the home page of this website.

These Camps are for 7-14 year olds. We are also considering running early evening Workshops at Easter for 14yo and older players. Paul Frost would lead these Coaching Sessions. We need to gauge interest before confirming that these will go ahead. Could those of you with players in this age range let us know if your player would be keen to attend and on which days. Please do this by completing the Google Form Easter Workshops Questionnaire.

Parents' Info 2023 including how to join/renew your membership

This doc will hopefully answer most of your questions about what our Club and its Junior Section are all about including hoe to join/renew your membership. You can access the Note by going clicking the ”Junior Section Info 2023” header at the top of the home page of this website.

The “Key Dates” section is currently being finalised but we can confirm that the first Outdoor Juniors Coaching/Practice Sessions at the Midd will be on Sunday 16 April and Monday 17 April 2023 – see Section 9 of the Info Note for who trains when.
