From the First XI Captain
Events of the last year have put cricket into perspective and I, for one, having seen the amount of people at training in sub-zero early April conditions, am not alone in having a renewed sense of appreciation for all that cricket at the Midd offers us, on and off the field. I am personally delighted to be back, in what promises to be a very exciting season for the club. We have made some great additions to an already strong 1st team squad. We've signed a trio from Finchley CC, all-rounder Hassan Khan, wicket-keeper batsman Tej Sheopuri and leg-spinner Uzi Amjaid, as well as all-rounder Tom Heathfield, who has recently moved to London from Northhants. Further bolstering the 1st team squad is Fergal Walter, who joins us from Hampstead CC.
We will have our Middlesex quartet, Ethan, Joe, Luke and Max available from time to time but their recent good form will hopefully mean more opportunities in Middlesex colours for each of them. Hugh Teesdale will also be one to watch following a winter with Leeds UCCE and his early season first-class experience.
With plenty of new, and plenty of increasingly old faces, this is the biggest and best first team squad we have ever had. There will be competition for places, but with so much league and cup cricket there will be plenty of opportunity for people to show what they can do. We should be challenging for every competition we enter this year. With developments off the field, there has never been a better time to be a Middie!
Up the Midd!
