From the 2nd XI Captain
I debuted for North Midd back in 2015. A pre-season friendly at leafy Hatfield. The show was stolen by a 15 year old wrist spinning all rounder by the name of Luke Hollman. Luke took 2 for 10 that day, but it was Nick Friend with 2 for 0 and 52 off 39 who saw us home alongside Ed Lake as we chased 84 without loss. Back then, I knew not a single person at the club. Yet, I was made to feel immediately welcome, on and off the field by teammates and non-team mates alike. The friendliness of the latter perhaps key to the One Club feel that has led to such enduring success since.
It's an honour to now be taking on the captaincy of the 2nd XI. Last season was a challenging one for myriad reasons. But with an already strong squad, strengthened by exciting new talent from both the junior section and further afield, we should be setting our sights back at the top of the table. If the truly unprecedented turn out, organisation and enthusiasm on display at the first outdoor training session on a chilly Easter Saturday is anything to go by, we could be in for a hell of a season.
Go the Midd!
