From the 4th XI Captain
When the 2020 season finally came around it certainly was one to enjoy. As is customary for a 4s side there was a healthy mix of new faces, promising youngsters & grizzled veterans. The pandemic meant that playing any cricket at all was something to be truly enjoyed and that certainly was the theme of the year.
There were some moments of great cricket. 8 wickets & a half century in his first 2 games from club debutant Dan Gallan ensured he moved on to greater heights in the club. A half century in the 4s for resident TV show personality AT & a chanceless final day century from Lakey were the highlights with the bat. However, the all round brilliance of Shayaan, who fittingly capped off his great season with a club best figures of 8-12, earned him the player of the year award. We certainly hope to see great things from him in the coming years!
4 straight wins to finish the season showed how far we have come as a group leaving us 4th in the table, 3 places higher than the previous season so certainly reason to celebrate!
Looking forward to 2021 we hope to keep building on that end of season success by continuing the development of the younger players in the team, who will no doubt play a key role for us again this season. Another year under the belts of many of our talented youngsters mixed with a solid core of veterans stand us in good stead to be a strong force in what promises to be a most highly anticipated seasons which we will all cherish after a very tough year.
Up the Midd!
