ASHFORD WOMEN'S 8-A-SIDE TOURNAMENT 2024 – RULES

- Normal laws of cricket apply, with the umpires judging wides as they would for a league match.
- There will be two Round Robin groups of 4, drawn at random, with each team playing the three others in their group. Each innings will consist of seven 6-ball overs. To save time, bowling will be from one end only, to be chosen by the bowling team for that innings. Batters will change ends at the end of each over.
Umpires can agree to change places every 2 overs, or after 4 overs.
- If both teams score the same number of runs in a game, the winner will be the side losing fewest wickets. If this is also the same, then the scores will be compared at the end of each over, counting back from the seventh until the winner is found. If teams have identical scores at the end of each over, the game is a tie.
- 2 points will be awarded for a win, 1 for a tie and 0 for a loss.
The teams will be ranked firstly by points, then, if necessary, by the total number of wickets taken in the three games, and if they are still equal, run rate over the three games. The two top ranked teams will contest the final.
- All players must be over 13 unless they are in the U13 age group for this cricket season (i.e. in year 8 in school, and aged 12 on preceding 1st September) AND their Club is confident of their ability to play open age cricket without compromising the standard of the adults playing (which would usually mean the player is in the relevant county programme). Their Club must also hold written permission from the parent/guardian for the player to compete in open age cricket.
- Each team will comprise 8 players, all of whom, except the nominated wicket keeper, will bowl one over.
- Wides and No Balls will count as 3 runs, but no extra ball will be bowled, except for the last over of each innings.
- Batsmen will retire after scoring 20 runs, provided there are batsmen remaining to come in, but may return to the crease at the fall of the last wicket or the last retirement. Retired batsmen must return in the order of their retirement, and must retire again on scoring another 20 runs.
- Each team will nominate their batting order for their first game, and submit it before the start. This will be a rolling order for the games, i.e. if batters 3 and 4 are at the crease at the end of game 1, batters 5 and 6 will open that team’s innings in their next game, UNLESS a not out batter has faced fewer than 3 balls, in which case they can continue into the next game.
- If another squad member is substituted in, they will take the batting position of the player they replace.
- Teams may use whatever batting order they wish in the final.
- Each team will be given a new pink ball to use in all their fielding innings
- Each team must provide an umpire and a scorer.
- Teams may wear coloured clothing or whites
